This package contains common files shared by the distinct flavours of GRUB. It is shared between GRUB Legacy and GRUB 2, although a number of files specific to GRUB 2 are here as long as they do not break GRUB Legacy.

grub-mkrescue needs the suggested packages mtools (for UEFI targets) and xorriso.

To uninstall only the grub-common package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove grub-common

To uninstall grub-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove grub-common

Remove grub-common Configurations and Data

To remove grub-common configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge grub-common
