In this tutorial we learn how to install grib_api on CentOS 7.

What is grib_api

The ECMWF GRIB API is an application program interface accessible from C and FORTRAN programs developed for encoding and decoding WMO FM-92 GRIB edition 1 and edition 2 messages. A useful set of command line tools is also provided to give quick access to grib messages.

We can use yum or dnf to install grib_api on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install grib_api.

Install grib_api on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install grib_api using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install grib_api

Install grib_api on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install grib_api using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install grib_api

How To Uninstall grib_api on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the grib_api package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove grib_api
