What is grass-dev

grass-dev is:

Commonly referred to as GRASS, this is a Geographic Information System (GIS) used for geospatial data management and analysis, image processing, graphics/map production, spatial modeling, and visualization. GRASS is currently used in academic and commercial settings around the world, as well as by many government agencies and environmental consulting companies.

This package contains the header files for developing with GRASS. Install this package if you wish to develop software that manipulates GRASS data sets or install addons using the g.extension module.

There are three methods to install grass-dev on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install grass-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install grass-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

After updating apt database, We can install grass-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install grass-dev

Install grass-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install grass-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install grass-dev

How To Uninstall grass-dev on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the grass-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove grass-dev

Uninstall grass-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall grass-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove grass-dev

Remove grass-dev Configurations and Data

To remove grass-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge grass-dev

Remove grass-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove grass-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge grass-dev
