How To Install gpsd on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gpsd on Kali Linux.
What is gpsd
gpsd is:
The gpsd service daemon can monitor one or more GPS devices connected to a host computer, making all data on the location and movements of the sensors available to be queried on TCP port 2947.
With gpsd, multiple GPS client applications can share access to devices without contention or loss of data. Also, gpsd responds to queries with a format that is substantially easier to parse than the different standards emitted by GPS devices.
This also includes common tools ubxtool and gpsctl for device configuration of the local hardware as well as a ntpshmmon to check generated refclock data.
There are three methods to install gpsd on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gpsd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gpsd using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gpsdInstall gpsd Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gpsd using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gpsdInstall gpsd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gpsd using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gpsdHow To Uninstall gpsd on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the gpsd package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gpsdUninstall gpsd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gpsd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gpsdRemove gpsd Configurations and Data
To remove gpsd configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gpsdRemove gpsd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gpsd configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gpsdDependencies
