What is gpsd-clients

xgps is a simple test client for gpsd with an X interface. It displays current GPS position/time/velocity information and (for GPSes that support the feature) the locations of accessible satellites. xgpsspeed is a speedometer that uses position information from the GPS. It accepts an -h option and optional argument as for gps, or a -v option to dump the package version and exit. Additionally, it accepts -rv (reverse video) and -nc (needle color) options. cgps resembles xgps, but without the pictorial satellite display. It can run on a serial terminal or terminal emulator.

We can use yum or dnf to install gpsd-clients on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install gpsd-clients.

Install gpsd-clients on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install gpsd-clients using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install gpsd-clients

Install gpsd-clients on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install gpsd-clients using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install gpsd-clients

How To Uninstall gpsd-clients on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the gpsd-clients package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove gpsd-clients
