Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install gpscorrelate-gui on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is gpscorrelate-gui

gpscorrelate-gui is:

gpscorrelate fills EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) fields of digital photos related to GPS (Global Positioning System) information (e.g.: GPSLatitude, GPSLongitude, GPSAltitude, …). The act of filling those fields is referred to as “correlation”.

Inputs of the correlation process are a set of JPEG images and GPS data encoded in GPX (GPS Exchange Format) format.

If GPS data are available at the precise moment the photo was taken (with a 1-second granularity) the GPS data are stored unmodified in EXIF fields. If they are not linear interpolation of GPS data available at moments before and after the photo was taken can be used.

Both a command line tool (package gpscorrelate) and a GTK+ graphical user interface for it (package gpscorrelate-gui) are provided.

This package contains the GTK+ graphical user interface.

There are three methods to install gpscorrelate-gui on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gpscorrelate-gui Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gpscorrelate-gui using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gpscorrelate-gui

Install gpscorrelate-gui Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gpscorrelate-gui using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gpscorrelate-gui

Install gpscorrelate-gui Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gpscorrelate-gui using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gpscorrelate-gui

How To Uninstall gpscorrelate-gui on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the gpscorrelate-gui package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gpscorrelate-gui

Uninstall gpscorrelate-gui And Its Dependencies

To uninstall gpscorrelate-gui and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gpscorrelate-gui

Remove gpscorrelate-gui Configurations and Data

To remove gpscorrelate-gui configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gpscorrelate-gui

Remove gpscorrelate-gui configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove gpscorrelate-gui configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gpscorrelate-gui
