How To Install google-authenticator on AlmaLinux 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install google-authenticator
on AlmaLinux 8.
What is google-authenticator
The Google Authenticator package contains a plug-able authentication module (PAM) which allows login using one-time pass-codes conforming to the open standards developed by the Initiative for Open Authentication (OATH) (which is unrelated to OAuth). Pass-code generators are available (separately) for several mobile platforms. These implementations support the HMAC-Based One-time Password (HOTP) algorithm specified in RFC 4226 and the Time-based One-time Password (TOTP) algorithm currently in draft.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install google-authenticator
on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install google-authenticator.
Install google-authenticator on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install google-authenticator
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install google-authenticator
Install google-authenticator on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install google-authenticator
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install google-authenticator
How To Uninstall google-authenticator on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the google-authenticator
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove google-authenticator
