How To Install gnuradio on Debian 10
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gnuradio
on Debian 10.
What is gnuradio
gnuradio is:
GNU Radio provides signal processing blocks to implement software radios. It can be used with readily-available low-cost external RF hardware to create software-defined radios, or without hardware in a simulation-like environment. It is widely used in hobbyist, academic and commercial environments to support both wireless communications research and real-world radio systems.
GNU Radio applications are primarily written using the Python programming language, while the supplied performance-critical signal processing path is implemented in C++ using processor floating-point extensions, where available. Thus, the developer is able to implement real-time, high-throughput radio systems in a simple-to-use, rapid-application-development environment.
While not primarily a simulation tool, GNU Radio does support development of signal processing algorithms using pre-recorded or generated data, avoiding the need for actual RF hardware.
This package contains the gnuradio-companion, a graphical tool for creating signal flow graphs and generating flow-graph source code. Also included are a variety of tools and utility programs.
There are three methods to install gnuradio
on Debian 10. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gnuradio Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gnuradio
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gnuradio
Install gnuradio Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gnuradio
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gnuradio
Install gnuradio Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gnuradio
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gnuradio
How To Uninstall gnuradio on Debian 10
To uninstall only the gnuradio
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gnuradio
Uninstall gnuradio And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gnuradio
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gnuradio
Remove gnuradio Configurations and Data
To remove gnuradio
configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gnuradio
Remove gnuradio configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gnuradio
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gnuradio
