How To Install gnupg1 on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gnupg1 on Kali Linux.
What is gnupg1
gnupg1 is:
GnuPG is GNU’s tool for secure communication and data storage. It can be used to encrypt data and to create digital signatures. It includes an advanced key management facility and is compliant with the proposed OpenPGP Internet standard as described in RFC 4880.
The gnupg1 package provides GnuPG 1.4, the “classic” standalone, non-modularized version. It is provided mainly for people with the need to use archaic cryptographic objects like PGPv3 keys to access archived messages. It does not support more recent cryptographic primitives like ECDSA or EdDSA. Please use the gnupg package instead unless you know for sure that you need gnupg1.
There are three methods to install gnupg1 on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gnupg1 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gnupg1 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gnupg1Install gnupg1 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gnupg1 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gnupg1Install gnupg1 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install gnupg1 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gnupg1How To Uninstall gnupg1 on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the gnupg1 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gnupg1Uninstall gnupg1 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gnupg1 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gnupg1Remove gnupg1 Configurations and Data
To remove gnupg1 configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gnupg1Remove gnupg1 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gnupg1 configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gnupg1Dependencies
