In this tutorial we learn how to install gnunet-fuse on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is gnunet-fuse

gnunet-fuse is:

GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework which focuses on providing security. All link-to-link messages in the network are confidential and authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and can currently encapsulate the peer-to-peer traffic in UDP, TCP, or SMTP messages.

This package contains the fuse filesystem client. In order use GNUnet, you also need gnunet-server either on your server or on your local machine.

There are three methods to install gnunet-fuse on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gnunet-fuse Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gnunet-fuse using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gnunet-fuse

Install gnunet-fuse Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gnunet-fuse using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gnunet-fuse

Install gnunet-fuse Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gnunet-fuse using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gnunet-fuse

How To Uninstall gnunet-fuse on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the gnunet-fuse package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gnunet-fuse

Uninstall gnunet-fuse And Its Dependencies

To uninstall gnunet-fuse and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gnunet-fuse

Remove gnunet-fuse Configurations and Data

To remove gnunet-fuse configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gnunet-fuse

Remove gnunet-fuse configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove gnunet-fuse configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gnunet-fuse
