How To Install gnumed-server on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gnumed-server
on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is gnumed-server
gnumed-server is:
This is the GNUmed Electronic Medical Record. Its purpose is to enable doctors to keep a medically sound record on their patients’ health. It does not currently provide functionality for billing and stock keeping. Clinical features are well-tested by real doctors in the field.
While the GNUmed team has taken the utmost care to make sure the medical records are safe at all times you still need to make sure you are taking appropriate steps to backup the medical data to a safe place at appropriate intervals. Do not forget to test your recovery procedures, too !

This package contains the PostgreSQL server part.
Note: The package does currently NOT build the GNUmed database but just installs the needed SQL files. Please see README.Debian.
There are three methods to install gnumed-server
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gnumed-server Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gnumed-server
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gnumed-server
Install gnumed-server Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gnumed-server
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gnumed-server
Install gnumed-server Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gnumed-server
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gnumed-server
How To Uninstall gnumed-server on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the gnumed-server
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gnumed-server
Uninstall gnumed-server And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gnumed-server
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gnumed-server
Remove gnumed-server Configurations and Data
To remove gnumed-server
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gnumed-server
Remove gnumed-server configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gnumed-server
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gnumed-server
