In this tutorial we learn how to install gnss-sdr on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is gnss-sdr

gnss-sdr is:

Global Navigation Satellite Systems receiver defined by software. It performs all the signal processing from raw signal samples up to the computation of the Position-Velocity-Time solution, including code and phase observables. It is able to work with raw data files or, if there is computational power enough, in real time with suitable radiofrequency front-ends. This software is mainly developed at CTTC (Centre Tecnologic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya, http://www.cttc.es) with contributions from around the world. More info at http://gnss-sdr.org

There are three methods to install gnss-sdr on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gnss-sdr Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gnss-sdr using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gnss-sdr

Install gnss-sdr Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gnss-sdr using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gnss-sdr

Install gnss-sdr Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gnss-sdr using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gnss-sdr

How To Uninstall gnss-sdr on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the gnss-sdr package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gnss-sdr

Uninstall gnss-sdr And Its Dependencies

To uninstall gnss-sdr and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gnss-sdr

Remove gnss-sdr Configurations and Data

To remove gnss-sdr configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gnss-sdr

Remove gnss-sdr configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove gnss-sdr configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gnss-sdr
