What is gnome-python2

The gnome-python package contains the source packages for the Python bindings for GNOME called PyGNOME. PyGNOME is an extension module for Python that provides access to the base GNOME libraries, so you have access to more widgets, a simple configuration interface, and metadata support.

We can use yum or dnf to install gnome-python2 on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install gnome-python2.

Install gnome-python2 on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install gnome-python2 using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install gnome-python2

Install gnome-python2 on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install gnome-python2 using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install gnome-python2

How To Uninstall gnome-python2 on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the gnome-python2 package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove gnome-python2
