How To Install gnome-do on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gnome-do on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is gnome-do
gnome-do is:
Allows you to quickly search for many items present in your GNOME desktop environment (applications, Firefox bookmarks, files, artists and albums in Rhythmbox, Pidgin buddies, etc.) and perform commonly used actions on those items (Run, Open, Email, Chat, Play, etc.).
GNOME Do is plugin based, allowing it to be easily extended to handle new items and actions. This package contains a core set of items and actions.
Although GNOME Do primarily targets the GNOME desktop, it also works under other desktop environments.
GNOME Do is inspired by Quicksilver and GNOME Launch Box.
There are three methods to install gnome-do on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gnome-do Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gnome-do using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gnome-do

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gnome-do using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gnome-do
Install gnome-do Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gnome-do using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gnome-do
How To Uninstall gnome-do on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the gnome-do package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gnome-do
Uninstall gnome-do And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gnome-do and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gnome-do
Remove gnome-do Configurations and Data
To remove gnome-do configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gnome-do
Remove gnome-do configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gnome-do configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gnome-do
