How To Install gmtp on Debian 10
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gmtp
on Debian 10.
What is gmtp
gmtp is:
gMTP is a simple and light-weight interface to the features provided by libmtp, which allows users to manage the files stored on any MTP music player supported by the libraries, including those with multiple storage devices (e.g. mobile phones).
It doesn’t provide complex features such as playlist management, it just makes transferring files from and to devices easy, by allowing users to upload, download and remove files on the device with a fast and easy-to-use graphical interface.
There are three methods to install gmtp
on Debian 10. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gmtp Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gmtp
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gmtp
Install gmtp Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gmtp
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gmtp
Install gmtp Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gmtp
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gmtp
How To Uninstall gmtp on Debian 10
To uninstall only the gmtp
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gmtp
Uninstall gmtp And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gmtp
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gmtp
Remove gmtp Configurations and Data
To remove gmtp
configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gmtp
Remove gmtp configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
