Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install gmic-zart on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is gmic-zart

gmic-zart is:

G’MIC is an open and full-featured framework for image processing, providing several different user interfaces to convert/manipulate/filter/visualize generic image datasets, from 1d scalar signals to 3d+t sequences of multi-spectral volumetric images.

This package contains ZArt, a program whose purpose is to demonstrate the possibilities of the G’MIC image processing language by offering the choice of several manipulations on a video stream acquired from a webcam. In other words, ZArt is a GUI for G’MIC real-time manipulations on the output of a webcam.

There are three methods to install gmic-zart on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gmic-zart Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gmic-zart using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gmic-zart

Install gmic-zart Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gmic-zart using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gmic-zart

Install gmic-zart Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gmic-zart using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gmic-zart

How To Uninstall gmic-zart on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the gmic-zart package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gmic-zart

Uninstall gmic-zart And Its Dependencies

To uninstall gmic-zart and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gmic-zart

Remove gmic-zart Configurations and Data

To remove gmic-zart configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gmic-zart

Remove gmic-zart configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove gmic-zart configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gmic-zart
