How To Install glibc on CentOS 7
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install glibc on CentOS 7.
What is glibc
The glibc package contains standard libraries which are used by multiple programs on the system. In order to save disk space and memory, as well as to make upgrading easier, common system code is kept in one place and shared between programs. This particular package contains the most important sets of shared libraries standard C library and the standard math library. Without these two libraries, a Linux system will not function.
We can use yum or dnf to install glibc on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install glibc.
Install glibc on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install glibc using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install glibc
Install glibc on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install glibc using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install glibc
How To Uninstall glibc on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the glibc package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove glibc
