How To Install glam2 on Debian 11
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install glam2 on Debian 11.
What is glam2
glam2 is:
GLAM2 is a software package for finding motifs in sequences, typically amino-acid or nucleotide sequences. A motif is a re-occurring sequence pattern: typical examples are the TATA box and the CAAX prenylation motif. The main innovation of GLAM2 is that it allows insertions and deletions in motifs.
This package includes programs for discovering motifs shared by a set of sequences and finding matches to these motifs in a sequence database, as well as utilities for converting glam2 motifs to standard alignment formats, masking glam2 motifs out of sequences so that weaker motifs can be found, and removing highly similar members of a set of sequences.
The package includes these programs: glam2: discovering motifs shared by a set of sequences; glam2scan: finding matches, in a sequence database, to a motif discovered by glam2; glam2format: converting glam2 motifs to standard alignment formats; glam2mask: masking glam2 motifs out of sequences, so that weaker motifs can be found; glam2-purge: removing highly similar members of a set of sequences.
In this binary package, the fast Fourier algorithm (FFT) was enabled for the glam2 program.
There are three methods to install glam2 on Debian 11. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install glam2 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install glam2 using apt-get by running the following command:

After updating apt database, We can install glam2 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install glam2
Install glam2 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install glam2 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install glam2
How To Uninstall glam2 on Debian 11
To uninstall only the glam2 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove glam2
Uninstall glam2 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall glam2 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove glam2
Remove glam2 Configurations and Data
To remove glam2 configuration and data from Debian 11 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge glam2
Remove glam2 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
