How To Install git-hub on Debian 12
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install git-hub on Debian 12.
What is git-hub
git-hub is:
git hub is a simple command line interface to GitHub, enabling most useful GitHub tasks (like creating and listing pull request or issues) to be accessed directly through the Git command line.
Although probably the most outstanding feature (and the one that motivated the creation of this tool) is the pull rebase command, which is the rebasing version of the GitHub Merge (TM) button. This enables an easy workflow that doesn’t involve thousands of merges which makes the repository history unreadable.
Another unique feature is the ability to transform an issue into a pull request by attaching commits to it (this is something offered by the GitHub API but not by the web interface).
There are three methods to install git-hub on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install git-hub Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install git-hub using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install git-hub
Install git-hub Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install git-hub using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install git-hub
Install git-hub Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install git-hub using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install git-hub
How To Uninstall git-hub on Debian 12
To uninstall only the git-hub package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove git-hub
Uninstall git-hub And Its Dependencies
To uninstall git-hub and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove git-hub
Remove git-hub Configurations and Data
To remove git-hub configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge git-hub
