How To Install git-crecord on Ubuntu 18.04

What is git-crecord
git-crecord is:
git-crecord is a Git subcommand which allows users to interactively select changes to commit or stage using a ncurses-based text user interface. It is a port of the Mercurial crecord extension originally written by Mark Edgington.
git-crecord allows you to interactively choose among the changes you have made (with line-level granularity), and commit, stage or unstage only those changes you select. After committing or staging the selected changes, the unselected changes are still present in your working copy, so you can use crecord multiple times to split large changes into several smaller changesets.
There are three methods to install git-crecord
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install git-crecord Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install git-crecord
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install git-crecord

After updating apt database, We can install git-crecord
using apt

sudo apt -y install git-crecord
Install git-crecord Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install git-crecord
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install git-crecord
How To Uninstall git-crecord on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the git-crecord
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove git-crecord
Uninstall git-crecord And Its Dependencies
To uninstall git-crecord
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove git-crecord
Remove git-crecord Configurations and Data
To remove git-crecord
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge git-crecord
