How To Install gigtools on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gigtools
on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is gigtools
gigtools is:
Raw file handling for audio sampler files based on DLS Level 1/2 and Gigasampler. These files are typically used in modern day audio waveform samplers. This package contains the following command line tools:
gigdump: Prints out the content of a .gig file. gigextract: Extracts samples from a .gig file. dlsdump: Prints out the content of a DLS file. rifftree: Prints out the RIFF tree of an arbitrary RIFF container file. sf2dump: Prints out the content of a .sf2 file. sf2extract: Extracts audio samples from a .sf2 file. korgdump: Prints out the content of KORG sound files (.KSF, .KMP). korg2gig: Converts KORG (.KSF, .KMP) sound files to GigaStudio (.gig) files. akaidump: Dump an AKAI media i.e. from a CDROM drive as disk image file to your HD. akaiextract: Extracts audio samples from an AKAI media or from an AKAI disk image file.
There are three methods to install gigtools
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gigtools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gigtools
using apt-get

After updating apt database, We can install gigtools

Install gigtools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gigtools
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gigtools
How To Uninstall gigtools on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the gigtools
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gigtools
Uninstall gigtools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gigtools
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gigtools
Remove gigtools Configurations and Data
To remove gigtools
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gigtools
Remove gigtools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gigtools
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gigtools
