How To Install ghdl-mcode on Debian 11

What is ghdl-mcode
ghdl-mcode is:
GHDL is a compiler and simulator for VHDL, a Hardware Description Language. GHDL is not an interpreter: it allows you to analyse and elaborate sources to generate machine code from your design. Native program execution is the only way for high speed simulation.
This package contains the compiler with the mcode backend.
There are three methods to install ghdl-mcode
on Debian 11. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ghdl-mcode Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ghdl-mcode
using apt-get

sudo apt-get -y install ghdl-mcode

After updating apt database, We can install ghdl-mcode

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude

After updating apt database, We can install ghdl-mcode
using aptitude

How To Uninstall ghdl-mcode on Debian 11
To uninstall only the ghdl-mcode
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ghdl-mcode

and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ghdl-mcode
