How To Install geoip-database on Ubuntu 20.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install geoip-database
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is geoip-database
geoip-database is:
GeoIP is a C library that enables the user to find the country that any IP address or hostname originates from. It uses a file based database.
This database simply contains IP blocks as keys, and countries as values and it should be more complete and accurate than using reverse DNS lookups.
This package contains the free GeoLiteCountry database. Task: kubuntu-desktop, kubuntu-full, ubuntukylin-desktop
There are three methods to install geoip-database
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install geoip-database Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install geoip-database
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install geoip-database
Install geoip-database Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install geoip-database
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install geoip-database
Install geoip-database Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install geoip-database
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install geoip-database
How To Uninstall geoip-database on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the geoip-database
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove geoip-database
Uninstall geoip-database And Its Dependencies
To uninstall geoip-database
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove geoip-database
Remove geoip-database Configurations and Data
To remove geoip-database
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge geoip-database
Remove geoip-database configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove geoip-database
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge geoip-database
