How To Install geoip-database-contrib on Ubuntu 18.04

on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is geoip-database-contrib
geoip-database-contrib is:
GeoIP is a C library that enables the user to find the country that any IP address or hostname originates from. It uses a file-based database.
This package contains a script that downloads the latest version of the binary flavor of the four MaxMind GeoLite databases (Country, IPv6 Country, City, and ASN).
These databases simply contain IP blocks as keys, and countries/cities/ASNs as values, which should be more complete and accurate than using reverse DNS lookups.
The MaxMind database itself is made available under a DFSG-compatible license. However, it is distributed directly in binary format and the source code for generating it is not provided.
There are three methods to install geoip-database-contrib
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get

and aptitude

Install geoip-database-contrib Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install geoip-database-contrib
using apt-get

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install geoip-database-contrib
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install geoip-database-contrib
Install geoip-database-contrib Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install geoip-database-contrib
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install geoip-database-contrib
How To Uninstall geoip-database-contrib on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the geoip-database-contrib
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove geoip-database-contrib
Uninstall geoip-database-contrib And Its Dependencies
To uninstall geoip-database-contrib
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove geoip-database-contrib
Remove geoip-database-contrib Configurations and Data
To remove geoip-database-contrib
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge geoip-database-contrib
Remove geoip-database-contrib configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove geoip-database-contrib
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge geoip-database-contrib
