How To Install gems on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install gems
on Debian 9.
What is gems
gems is:
The gems system is a client/server application that allows one to show a single console session in different computers or terminals in real time. It can also be used to transmit any other kind of data to more than one computer at the same time, via a network connection.
It was designed as an educational tool for teachers that have to show in a computer lab how to do certain things with the console. Using the gems system, each student can observe in his/her own terminal everything the teacher does.
There are three methods to install gems
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gems Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gems
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gems
Install gems Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gems
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gems
Install gems Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gems
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gems
How To Uninstall gems on Debian 9
To uninstall only the gems
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gems
Uninstall gems And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gems
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gems
Remove gems Configurations and Data
To remove gems
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gems
