How To Install gemrb on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gemrb
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is gemrb
gemrb is:
GemRB (Game Engine Made with preRendered Background) is a new implementation of the original Infinity Engine (the one of Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment, …) to Linux/Unix, MacOS X and Windows with some enhancements.
It means that you either need some of the original game’s data somewhere on your harddisk, or you can try to use the data from the Dragonlance Total Conversion project.
The original game data has to be installed on a windows partition and mounted to your Linux/Unix filesystem, installed on windows and then copied to your filesystem, installed with WINE or extracted manually from the CDs using the tool `unshield'.
Supported games: Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale series, Planescape:Torment.
There are three methods to install gemrb
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gemrb Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gemrb
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gemrb
Install gemrb Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gemrb
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gemrb
Install gemrb Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gemrb
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gemrb
How To Uninstall gemrb on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the gemrb
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gemrb
Uninstall gemrb And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gemrb
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gemrb
Remove gemrb Configurations and Data
To remove gemrb
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gemrb
Remove gemrb configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gemrb
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gemrb
