geda is:

The gEDA project has produced and continues working on a full GPL’d suite and toolkit of Electronic Design Automation tools. These tools are used for electrical circuit design, schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, and production. Currently, the gEDA project offers a mature suite of free software applications for electronics design, including schematic capture, attribute management, bill of materials (BOM) generation, netlisting into over 20 netlist formats, analog and digital simulation, and printed circuit board (PCB) layout.

This is a metapackage which depends on the components required for a typical gEDA installation.

There are three methods to install geda on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install geda Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install geda using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install geda

Install geda Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install geda using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install geda

Install geda Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install geda using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install geda

How To Uninstall geda on Debian 9

To uninstall only the geda package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove geda

Uninstall geda And Its Dependencies

To uninstall geda and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove geda

Remove geda Configurations and Data

To remove geda configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge geda

Remove geda configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove geda configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge geda
