What is gdbm

Gdbm is a GNU database indexing library, including routines which use extensible hashing. Gdbm works in a similar way to standard UNIX dbm routines. Gdbm is useful for developers who write C applications and need access to a simple and efficient database or who are building C applications which will use such a database. If you’re a C developer and your programs need access to simple database routines, you should install gdbm. You’ll also need to install gdbm-devel.

We can use yum or dnf to install gdbm on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install gdbm.

Install gdbm on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install gdbm using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install gdbm

Install gdbm on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install gdbm using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install gdbm

How To Uninstall gdbm on AlmaLinux 8

To uninstall only the gdbm package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove gdbm
