How To Install gcj-jre on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gcj-jre on Debian 9.
What is gcj-jre
gcj-jre is:
GIJ is a Java bytecode interpreter, not limited to interpreting bytecode. It includes a class loader which can dynamically load shared objects, so it is possible to give it the name of a class which has been compiled and put into a shared library on the class path.
This is currently an empty package. It is meant to provide a Java-RTE-like interface to the GIJ/GCJ tool set.
There are three methods to install gcj-jre on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gcj-jre Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gcj-jre using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gcj-jre
Install gcj-jre Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gcj-jre using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gcj-jre
Install gcj-jre Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gcj-jre using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gcj-jre
How To Uninstall gcj-jre on Debian 9
To uninstall only the gcj-jre package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gcj-jre
Uninstall gcj-jre And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gcj-jre and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gcj-jre
Remove gcj-jre Configurations and Data
To remove gcj-jre configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gcj-jre
Remove gcj-jre configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove gcj-jre configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gcj-jre
