How To Install gcin on Ubuntu 20.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gcin on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is gcin
gcin is:
gcin is a GTK+ based input method which focused mainly on Traditional Chinese. However, it is also very useful for Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and many other languages.
To use gcin, the correspondence immodule packages also need to be installed. They are:
- gcin-gtk2-immodule for GTK2
- gcin-gtk3-immodule for GTK3
- gcin-qt5-immodule for Qt5
There are three methods to install gcin on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gcin Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gcin using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gcin
Install gcin Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gcin using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gcin
Install gcin Using aptitude

How To Uninstall gcin on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the gcin package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gcin
Uninstall gcin And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gcin and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gcin
Remove gcin Configurations and Data
To remove gcin configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gcin
Remove gcin configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
