How To Install gap-libs on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install gap-libs on Kali Linux.

What is gap-libs

gap-libs is:

GAP is a system for computational discrete algebra, with particular emphasis on Computational Group Theory. GAP provides a programming language, a library of thousands of functions implementing algebraic algorithms written in the GAP language as well as large data libraries of algebraic objects. GAP is used in research and teaching for studying groups and their representations, rings, vector spaces, algebras, combinatorial structures, and more.

This package contains the essential GAP libraries (lib and grp).

There are three methods to install gap-libs on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gap-libs Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gap-libs using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gap-libs

Install gap-libs Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gap-libs using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gap-libs

Install gap-libs Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gap-libs using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gap-libs

How To Uninstall gap-libs on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the gap-libs package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gap-libs

To uninstall gap-libs and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gap-libs

To remove gap-libs configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gap-libs
