How To Install gap-hap on Debian 12

Learn how to install gap-hap on Debian 12 with this tutorial. gap-hap is GAP HAP - Homological Algebra Programming

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install gap-hap on Debian 12.

What is gap-hap

gap-hap is:

GAP is a system for computational discrete algebra, with particular emphasis on Computational Group Theory. GAP provides a programming language, a library of thousands of functions implementing algebraic algorithms written in the GAP language as well as large data libraries of algebraic objects. GAP is used in research and teaching for studying groups and their representations, rings, vector spaces, algebras, combinatorial structures, and more.

HAP is a package for some calculations in elementary algebraic topology and the cohomology of groups. The initial focus of the library was on computations related to the cohomology of finite and infinite groups, with particular emphasis on integral coefficients. The focus has since broadened to include Steenrod algebras of finite groups, Bredon homology, cohomology of simplicial groups, and general computations in algebraic topology relating to finite CW-complexes, covering spaces, knots, knotted surfaces, and topics such as persistent homology arising in topological data analysis.

There are three methods to install gap-hap on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gap-hap Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gap-hap using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gap-hap

Install gap-hap Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gap-hap using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gap-hap

Install gap-hap Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gap-hap using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gap-hap

How To Uninstall gap-hap on Debian 12

To uninstall only the gap-hap package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gap-hap

Uninstall gap-hap And Its Dependencies

To uninstall gap-hap and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gap-hap

Remove gap-hap Configurations and Data

To remove gap-hap configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gap-hap

Remove gap-hap configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove gap-hap configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gap-hap

Dependencies

gap-hap have the following dependencies:
