How To Install fractgen on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install fractgen on Debian 9.
What is fractgen
fractgen is:
FractalGenerator is a Qt-based program to generate fractal images (e.g. Mandelbrot set). The size of the calculated images is only limited by the computer’s virtual memory. That is, images may use the full printer resolution !
It is possible to zoom into images. Image parameters can be saved in XML files and loaded from XML files. Calculated images can be exported as PNG files.
The intention of this program is to generate graphics to be post-processed by other image tools, e.g. in order to generate nice screen backgrounds or book covers.
There are three methods to install fractgen on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install fractgen Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install fractgen using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install fractgen
Install fractgen Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install fractgen using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install fractgen
Install fractgen Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install fractgen using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install fractgen
How To Uninstall fractgen on Debian 9
To uninstall only the fractgen package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove fractgen
Uninstall fractgen And Its Dependencies
To uninstall fractgen and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove fractgen
Remove fractgen Configurations and Data
To remove fractgen configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge fractgen
