How To Install fping on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install fping on Kali Linux.
What is fping
fping is:
fping is a ping like program which uses the Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo request to determine if a target host is responding. fping differs from ping in that you can specify any number of targets on the command line, or specify a file containing the lists of targets to ping. Instead of sending to one target until it times out or replies, fping will send out a ping packet and move on to the next target in a round-robin fashion.
There are three methods to install fping on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install fping Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install fping using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install fpingInstall fping Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install fping using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install fpingInstall fping Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install fping using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install fpingHow To Uninstall fping on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the fping package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove fpingUninstall fping And Its Dependencies
To uninstall fping and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove fpingRemove fping Configurations and Data
To remove fping configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge fpingRemove fping configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove fping configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge fpingDependencies
