In this tutorial we learn how to install fluxbox on CentOS 7.

What is fluxbox

Fluxbox is yet another window-manager for X. It’s based on the Blackbox 0.61.1 code. Fluxbox looks like blackbox and handles styles, colors, window placement and similar thing exactly like blackbox (100% theme/style compatibility). So what’s the difference between fluxbox and blackbox then? The answer is LOTS! Have a look at the homepage for more info ;)

We can use yum or dnf to install fluxbox on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install fluxbox.

Install fluxbox on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install fluxbox using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install fluxbox

Install fluxbox on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install fluxbox using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install fluxbox

How To Uninstall fluxbox on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the fluxbox package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove fluxbox
