How To Install firewall-applet on Debian 12
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install firewall-applet
on Debian 12.
What is firewall-applet
firewall-applet is:
firewalld is a dynamically managed firewall daemon with support for network/firewall zones to define the trust level of network connections or interfaces. It has support for IPv4, IPv6 firewall settings and for ethernet bridges and has a separation of runtime and persistent configuration options. It also provides a D-Bus interface for services or applications to add and apply firewall rules on-the-fly.
This package provides a panel applet which shows status information of firewalld.
There are three methods to install firewall-applet
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install firewall-applet Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install firewall-applet
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install firewall-applet
Install firewall-applet Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install firewall-applet
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install firewall-applet
Install firewall-applet Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install firewall-applet
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install firewall-applet
How To Uninstall firewall-applet on Debian 12
To uninstall only the firewall-applet
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove firewall-applet
Uninstall firewall-applet And Its Dependencies
To uninstall firewall-applet
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove firewall-applet
Remove firewall-applet Configurations and Data
To remove firewall-applet
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge firewall-applet
Remove firewall-applet configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove firewall-applet
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge firewall-applet
