How To Install finch on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install finch on Kali Linux.

What is finch

finch is:

Finch is a text/console-based, modular instant messaging client capable of using multiple networks at once. Currently supported are: AIM/ICQ, IRC, Jabber/XMPP/Google Talk, Napster, Zephyr, Gadu-Gadu, Bonjour, Groupwise, Sametime, and SIMPLE.

Some extra packages are suggested to use increased functionality:

• libx11-6
  • To use the Clipboard and/or Toaster plugins.

There are three methods to install finch on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install finch Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install finch using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install finch

Install finch Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install finch using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install finch

Install finch Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install finch using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install finch

How To Uninstall finch on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the finch package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove finch

Uninstall finch And Its Dependencies

To uninstall finch and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove finch

Remove finch Configurations and Data

To remove finch configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge finch
