How To Install file-roller on Kali Linux

on Kali Linux.
What is file-roller
file-roller is:
File-roller is an archive manager for the GNOME environment. It allows you to:
- Create and modify archives.
- View the content of an archive.
- View a file contained in an archive.
- Extract files from the archive.
File-roller supports the following formats:
- Tar (.tar) archives, including those compressed with gzip (.tar.gz, .tgz), bzip (.tar.bz, .tbz), bzip2 (.tar.bz2, .tbz2), compress (.tar.Z, .taz), lzip (.tar.lz, .tlz), lzop (.tar.lzo, .tzo), lzma (.tar.lzma) and xz (.tar.xz)
- Zip archives (.zip)
- Jar archives (.jar, .ear, .war)
- 7z archives (.7z)
- iso9660 CD images (.iso)
- Lha archives (.lzh)
- Archiver archives (.ar)
- Comic book archives (.cbz)
- Single files compressed with gzip (.gz), bzip (.bz), bzip2 (.bz2), compress (.Z), lzip (.lz), lzop (.lzo), lzma (.lzma) and xz (.xz)
File-roller can extract following formats:
- Cabinet archives (.cab)
- Debian binary packages (.deb)
- Xar archives (.xar)
File-roller doesn’t perform archive operations by itself, but relies on standard tools for this.
There are three methods to install file-roller
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install file-roller Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install file-roller
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install file-roller

sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install file-roller
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install file-roller
Install file-roller Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install file-roller
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install file-roller
How To Uninstall file-roller on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the file-roller
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove file-roller
Uninstall file-roller And Its Dependencies
To uninstall file-roller
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove file-roller
Remove file-roller Configurations and Data
To remove file-roller
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge file-roller
Remove file-roller configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
