How To Install ferret-vis on Debian 10

on Debian 10.
What is ferret-vis
ferret-vis is:
Ferret is an interactive computer visualization and analysis environment designed to meet the needs of oceanographers and meteorologists analyzing large and complex gridded data sets. It can transparently access extensive remote Internet data bases using OPeNDAP (formerly known as DODS)
Ferret has a Mathematica-like flexibility, geophysical formatting, “intelligent” connection to its data base, memory management for very large calculations, and symmetrical processing in 4 dimensions. It can work on both gridded and non-gridded datasets.
There are three methods to install ferret-vis
on Debian 10. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ferret-vis Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ferret-vis
using apt-get

After updating apt database, We can install ferret-vis

sudo apt -y install ferret-vis
Install ferret-vis Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ferret-vis
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ferret-vis
How To Uninstall ferret-vis on Debian 10
To uninstall only the ferret-vis
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ferret-vis
Uninstall ferret-vis And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ferret-vis
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ferret-vis
Remove ferret-vis Configurations and Data
To remove ferret-vis
configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ferret-vis
