How To Install fasd on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install fasd on Kali Linux.
What is fasd
fasd is:
Fasd (pronounced similar to “fast”) is a command-line productivity booster. Fasd offers quick access to files and directories for POSIX shells. It is inspired by tools like autojump, z and v. Fasd keeps track of files and directories you have accessed, so that you can quickly reference them in the command line.
The name fasd comes from the default suggested aliases f(files), a(files/directories), s(show/search/select), d(directories).
There are three methods to install fasd on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install fasd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install fasd using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install fasdInstall fasd Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install fasd using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install fasdInstall fasd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install fasd using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install fasdHow To Uninstall fasd on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the fasd package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove fasdUninstall fasd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall fasd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove fasdRemove fasd Configurations and Data
To remove fasd configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge fasdRemove fasd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove fasd configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge fasdDependencies
