In this tutorial we learn how to install fadecut on Kali Linux.

What is fadecut

fadecut is:

fadecut is a script to rip audio files from a livestream and to process them automatically. Beginning and ending fo the audio files will be cut and faded in/out. So logos and advertising of radio stations will be automatically removed.

In streaming mode fadecut is ripping audio files using streamripper. The downloaded audio files are cutted using silence detection and then faded in and out. Subsequently, the files are encoded to either ogg or mp3 and tagged with tags (title, artist, genre and comment provided).

In file mode fadecut is just processing already ripped audio files.

An audio file which has already been processed is detected and will not be processed again. Not desired songs can be stored in a separate directory. This files are not processed anymore too.

There are three methods to install fadecut on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install fadecut Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install fadecut using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install fadecut

Install fadecut Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install fadecut using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install fadecut

Install fadecut Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install fadecut using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install fadecut

How To Uninstall fadecut on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the fadecut package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove fadecut

Uninstall fadecut And Its Dependencies

To uninstall fadecut and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove fadecut

Remove fadecut Configurations and Data

To remove fadecut configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge fadecut

Remove fadecut configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove fadecut configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge fadecut
