What is extundelete
extundelete is a utility that can recover deleted files from an ext3 or ext4 partition. extundelete uses the information stored in the partition’s journal to attempt to recover a file that has been deleted from the partition. There is no guarantee that any particular file will be able to be undeleted, so always try to have a good backup system in place, or at least put one in place after recovering your files!
We can use yum or dnf to install extundelete on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install extundelete.
Install extundelete on CentOS 7 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install extundelete using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install extundelete
Install extundelete on CentOS 7 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install extundelete using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install extundelete
How To Uninstall extundelete on CentOS 7
To uninstall only the extundelete package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove extundelete
