How To Install extsmail on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install extsmail
on Kali Linux.
What is extsmail
extsmail is:
extsmail masquerades as the standard UNIX sendmail program, reading messages, and later piping them to user-defined commands.
In a sense, extsmail can be thought of as a very simple “tiny” sendmail (Think SSMTP, UUCP, …)
A typical use is to allow e-mail to be piped via ssh to external servers running a full sendmail-compatible MTA. extsmail is designed to have sensible defaults, and configuring it is a one-off, quick job.
There are three methods to install extsmail
on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install extsmail Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install extsmail
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install extsmail
Install extsmail Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install extsmail
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install extsmail
Install extsmail Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install extsmail
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install extsmail
How To Uninstall extsmail on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the extsmail
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove extsmail
Uninstall extsmail And Its Dependencies
To uninstall extsmail
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove extsmail
Remove extsmail Configurations and Data
To remove extsmail
configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge extsmail
Remove extsmail configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove extsmail
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge extsmail
