In this tutorial we learn how to install expectk on CentOS 7.

What is expectk

Expect is a tcl application for automating and testing interactive applications such as telnet, ftp, passwd, fsck, rlogin, tip, etc. Expect makes it easy for a script to control another program and interact with it. This package originally contained expectk and some scripts that used it. As expectk was removed from upstream tarball in expect-5.45, now the package contains just these scripts. Please use tclsh with package require Tk and Expect instead of expectk.

We can use yum or dnf to install expectk on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install expectk.

Install expectk on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install expectk using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install expectk

Install expectk on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install expectk using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install expectk

How To Uninstall expectk on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the expectk package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove expectk
