How To Install expect on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install expect on Kali Linux.
What is expect
expect is:
Expect is a tool for automating interactive applications according to a script. Following the script, Expect knows what can be expected from a program and what the correct response should be. Expect is also useful for testing these same applications. And by adding Tk, you can also wrap interactive applications in X11 GUIs. An interpreted language provides branching and high-level control structures to direct the dialogue. In addition, the user can take control and interact directly when desired, afterward returning control to the script.
This package contains the expect binary and several Expect based scripts.
There are three methods to install expect on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install expect Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install expect using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install expectInstall expect Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install expect using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install expectInstall expect Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

To uninstall only the expect package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove expectUninstall expect And Its Dependencies
To uninstall expect and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove expectRemove expect Configurations and Data
To remove expect configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge expectRemove expect configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
