In this tutorial we learn how to install evince on CentOS 7.

What is evince

Evince is simple multi-page document viewer. It can display and print Portable Document Format (PDF), PostScript (PS) and Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files. When supported by the document format, evince allows searching for text, copying text to the clipboard, hypertext navigation, table-of-contents bookmarks and editing of forms. Support for other document formats such as DVI and DJVU can be added by installing additional backends.

We can use yum or dnf to install evince on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install evince.

Install evince on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install evince using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install evince

Install evince on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install evince using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install evince

How To Uninstall evince on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the evince package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove evince
