What is eventlog

The EventLog library aims to be a replacement of the simple syslog() API provided on UNIX systems. The major difference between EventLog and syslog is that EventLog tries to add structure to messages. EventLog provides an interface to build, format and output an event record. The exact format and output method can be customized by the administrator via a configuration file. This package is the runtime part of the library.

We can use yum or dnf to install eventlog on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install eventlog.

Install eventlog on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install eventlog using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install eventlog

Install eventlog on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install eventlog using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install eventlog

How To Uninstall eventlog on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the eventlog package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove eventlog
