How To Install esmtp on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install esmtp on Kali Linux.
What is esmtp
esmtp is:
ESMTP is a user configurable relay-only Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) with a sendmail-compatible syntax. It’s based on libESMTP supporting the AUTH (including the CRAM-MD5 and NTLM SASL mechanisms) and the StartTLS SMTP extensions.
ESMTP does not receive mail, expand aliases or manage a queue but can deliver mail locally via an MDA.
This package contains the esmtp program.
There are three methods to install esmtp on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install esmtp Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install esmtp using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install esmtpInstall esmtp Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install esmtp using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install esmtpInstall esmtp Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install esmtp using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install esmtpHow To Uninstall esmtp on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the esmtp package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove esmtpUninstall esmtp And Its Dependencies
To uninstall esmtp and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove esmtpRemove esmtp Configurations and Data
To remove esmtp configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge esmtpRemove esmtp configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove esmtp configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge esmtpDependencies
