How To Install erlang-jose on Ubuntu 22.04

What is erlang-jose
erlang-jose is:
JOSE stands for JSON Object Signing and Encryption which is a is a set of standards established by the JOSE Working Group. JOSE is split into 5 main components:
- JOSE.JWA - JSON Web Algorithms (JWA) RFC 7518
- JOSE.JWE - JSON Web Encryption (JWE) RFC 7516
- JOSE.JWK - JSON Web Key (JWK) RFC 7517
- JOSE.JWS - JSON Web Signature (JWS) RFC 7515
- JOSE.JWT - JSON Web Token (JWT) RFC 7519 Additional specifications and drafts implemented:
- JSON Web Key (JWK) Thumbprint RFC 7638
- JWS Unencoded Payload Option RFC 7797
There are three methods to install erlang-jose
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install erlang-jose Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install erlang-jose
using apt-get

sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install erlang-jose
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install erlang-jose
Install erlang-jose Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install erlang-jose
using aptitude

How To Uninstall erlang-jose on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the erlang-jose
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove erlang-jose
Uninstall erlang-jose And Its Dependencies
To uninstall erlang-jose
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove erlang-jose
Remove erlang-jose Configurations and Data
To remove erlang-jose
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge erlang-jose
Remove erlang-jose configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove erlang-jose
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge erlang-jose
