How To Install emacs24-lucid on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install emacs24-lucid on Debian 9.
What is emacs24-lucid
emacs24-lucid is:
GNU Emacs is the extensible self-documenting text editor. This package contains a version of Emacs with support for a graphical user interface based on the Lucid toolkit (instead of the GTK+ interface provided by the emacs24 package). Until some known GTK+ problems are fixed, this version may help avoid crashing Emacs during an emacsclient disconnect. There are three methods to install emacs24-lucid on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install emacs24-lucid Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install emacs24-lucid using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install emacs24-lucid
Install emacs24-lucid Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install emacs24-lucid using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install emacs24-lucid
Install emacs24-lucid Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install emacs24-lucid using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install emacs24-lucid
How To Uninstall emacs24-lucid on Debian 9
To uninstall only the emacs24-lucid package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove emacs24-lucid
Uninstall emacs24-lucid And Its Dependencies
To uninstall emacs24-lucid and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove emacs24-lucid
Remove emacs24-lucid Configurations and Data
To remove emacs24-lucid configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge emacs24-lucid
Remove emacs24-lucid configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
